Not all of us can do great things during our lifetime, but we can surely do many small things with great passion and love.

38th Update - 4 Years after Surgery

The fourth anniversary of my knee operation has just passed. I’m fine generally. In addition to my part-time lecturing stint at the Polytechnic, I’ve also taken up another part-time job as an advisor to a local conglomerate. This will keep me active and occupied with worthwhile things to do. I’ve also travelled to the US and UK and will be visiting my eldest daughter in Canada soon. I’ve continued to play recreation golf regularly since it has low impact on the knee and I can ride the buggy to avoid over straining the knee. Together with my wife, we have also been taking relaxing stroll in walking trails in nature parks. We’ve covered quite a numbers; West Coast Park, Labrador Park, the Southern Ridges, including Clementi Wood to Kent Ridge Park, Kent Ridge to Horti Park (Alexandra Road), Alexandra Arch to Henderson Wave, Telok Blangah Hill to Mt Faber, including the Marang Trail to Harbour Front. We’ve gone up to the Bukit Timah Hill and visited the Hindele Quarry, taken the Diary Farm Nature trail to Singapore Quarry, visited Bukit Batok Nature Park and the Little Guilin. We’ve also gone for the tree-top walk and reservoir boardwalk at MacRitchie Reservoir Park. Didn’t know Singapore has so much green space. Perhaps I’ll post some pictures the next time.

The last checkup with my doctor recently showed some wear damage on the cartilage of my left knee as well (the good leg). There were occasional episodes of pain on both knees but it wasn’t too bad. The doctor is quite happy with my recovery and said that he has successfully tried out this technique on older patients, one of whom is a fit 67 years old man. He joked that by the time my left knee requires attention, there may, hopefully be new, less invasive procedures for the cure.
